Re: New bathtub
Ed, Awesome job! Some of the jobs the two of you tackle on the road really impress us! New tub looks great! Thanks for that! We really had to fix the shower, as we use it all the time when we boondock. Although now that we're in Central America we've been staying in campgrounds more. As we speak we...

New bathtub
We've been living in our van for over a year now, using the shower regularly. A couple of weeks back I noticed water flowing out the back doors when Melissa was having a shower. It turned out there was quite a large crack in the bathtub which we hadn't noticed, who knows for how long! To make matter...

Re: Dinette Conversion
That looks really good! I love it. How did you match the stain color so well? Also where'd you get the telescoping post? Hope I’m not jumping in out of turn, but I think this is the pedestal that was used: https://tinyurl.com/yafghfqk It’s definitely a 3-stage pedestal. That looks like the same pie...

Re: Dinette Conversion
I don't know where any pieces are from, as the previous owner did all the work. But the table leg is the only specialist piece, the rest is really just box work with plywood and then a few costs of polyurethane. I'm 6'3"and it would be just about possible to sleep on it stretched out, though I ...

Re: Dinette Conversion
That looks great, Ed. And super functional too. The fabric is a nice choice. Very complementary. Haha, thanks. We got those seat covers done in Mexico from the same guy who did the front chairs. They are cotton, so comfortable, and dark so they hide the dirt. Melissa was worried they might be too b...

Re: Dinette Conversion
I should also mention the seat cushions (not the one that covers the table when in sofa mode) are held in place with Velcro sewn into the covers and glued onto the wood.

Dinette Conversion
I just thought I'd share some pictures of the dinette conversion that the previous owner did with our van. We love having the chairs facing each other with a table that can take all our food or a couple of laptops if needed. The seat towards the front covers the generator compartment along with the ...

Re: Transmission Temp & Vacuum gauge install
Hi Kentuckian, I had one more question for you, I didn't know if this thread was the best place... Hi Ed! Installing a transmission cooler is a very straightforward install. There is a ton of information online that can help you make the decision. AutoZone online is a great place to find the kit yo...

Re: Cell phone booster and external WiFi antenna
Thank you. I have seen a couple of videos and will check as many as I can find on youtube. Why is it so hard to disconnect.... It was a difficult choice for us. In the end we chose a simple refurbished kit from weboast, from their website at around $100. We chose this method as we can simply...

Captain's chairs seat covers
We just got some seat covers made for our front chairs, as they were starting to get a little worn. We're in Mexico at the moment, so it easy to find a guy that could do a good job that was also cheap. I thought I'd post them here to give some ideas to anyone else. The fabric was originally a woven ...

Cell phone booster and external WiFi antenna
We installed both a cell phone booster and a WiFi antenna on the van a while ago but we just made a blog post about it now. Both have been incredibly useful while traveling, now that we are staying in campsites in Mexico we use the WiFi antenna nearly every day. The antenna attaches to where our CB ...

Re: Transmission Temp & Vacuum gauge install
Hi choptop, Thanks for the advice. I'm going to wait before doing anything to the van. We're in Guadalajara at the moment, and there's still a lot of Mexico to go, so there's time to buy a cooler at Autozone if needed. We've crossed the highest mountain range in Mexico, that along with the hot weath...

Re: Transmission Temp & Vacuum gauge install
Just got a chance to look under the van. I found the hoses coming out of the transmission, but they are metal all the way until the radiator. Which makes it a little more complicated for me. In the videos online there are always junctions with rubber hoses where the extra cooler can be inserted, not...

Re: Transmission Temp & Vacuum gauge install
Hi guys, Thanks for the feedback. Kentuckian - the transmission heats up the most going up hill, using engine braking on the way down doesn't increase the temperature per se, but it doesn't let it cool down at all. At the moment we're in the mountains surrounding Guadalajara, it took us a long time ...
