Re: Generator oil change

When I acquired my 1993 Airstream 190 I found that there was no hole in the floor of the generator enclosure to allow access to the generator's oil drain plug. After careful measurement, I drilled a hole to allow access. (I drilled from underneath, thus not needing to remove the generator.) While th...

Re: Upper Window

Is it just the glass, or did they damage the fiberglass as well?

I assume they drove into something too low. It's hard to imaging them damaging the glass that way with absolutely no damage to anything else.

Re: Third Brake Light

Yes; the fixture is designed for anywhere from vertical to 20° down.
Our application has them tilted about 5° up.

Third Brake Light

The third brake light on my 1993 Airstream 190 is marked: "SIERRA PRODUCTS, INC. LIVERMORE, CA." The red lens includes the marking "SAE-U-88 DOT". I don't see any manufacturer part numbers. (I tell where to get a replacement at the end of this posting.) The cutout in the fibergla...

Re: Gasoline Fumes When Refueling?

My records show that in 2004 I replaced both the fuel vent and fuel fill hoses on my Airstream 190 on a 1993 Ford E350 chassis with gasoline engine. I brought the old hoses to an industrial hose shop and had them matched. I didn't record what hose types I used that time. In 2013 the vent hose again ...

Re: Newbie worried about charging laptops

I think it's actually somewhat more complicated. In the Airstream 190 (as in pretty much all RVs) there are two primary "types" of power: 120-volt AC and 12-volt DC. Each of these types of power can, in turn, come from a variety of sources. 120-volt power can come from: - "shore power...

Re: Replacing the water tank

Mark, Like most RVs, my 1993 Airstream 190 has three water tanks: fresh water, grey water, and black water. In my 190 (and, I believe, in all years) the fresh water tank is inside (to protect it from freezing) and the grey and black water tanks are mounted under the vehicle aft of the differential. ...

Re: Microwave removal

The microwave oven was something I didn't use, so I removed it to free up space. My plan is to use that area as an instrument panel (but that's what I've said for a year now, so who knows when I'll get to it). I thus don't have any recommendations for a replacement.

Re: Microwave removal

I believe the board under the microwave has four small holes positioned for the microwave rubber feet to fit into, thus preventing it from sliding out while driving. In my 1993 Airstream 190 I was able to lift the microwave straight up and slide it out. I opened the microwave and lifted from the ins...

Re: Missing Drain Plug?

That looks to me like the access hole (sometimes called an inspection hole) for the transmission torque converter drain plug. I believe there's normally a rubber plug to keep dirt and debris out of the transmission bellhousing. (Note that not all E4OD torque converters actually have drain plugs, but...

Re: Hitch Receiver Wiring Harness - 7way?

The 7-way you're talking about is probably what I think of as a 7-way RV-style blade connector. The 4-way is probably what is often called a "flat four" connector. (These seem to be the two most common connector styles.) My 1993 Airstream 190 came with a proprietary Ford trailer connector ...

Re: Trimetric installation

Mike, At first I thought there was something wrong with the plan you describe, but after staring at it, I'm not seeing anything. There needs to be exactly one wire between the battery negative post and the shunt, and absolutely nothing else connected on that side of the shunt, but your plan is okay ...

Re: Trimetric installation

Mike, I have very large cables (4/0; nearly 1/2" in diameter) running from the battery bank to the shunt and from the shunt to a PROsine 2000 inverter/charger. (The heavy cables are because the inverter can draw many hundreds of amps.) I then have smaller cables from the shunt to the fuse box a...

Re: Trimetric installation

Mike, I think it likely that there is at least one other ground point from the house battery. In my 1993 Airstream 190, while the house battery was in the engine compartment (I now have three 100-Ah AGM batteries under the couch instead), I had the house battery grounded to the vehicle body with a h...

Re: new owner

The Maxxair item is probably just a cover over the main vent, added after the motorhome was manufactured. That main vent is likely made by Fantastic Vent: http://www.fantasticvent.com/ The shower vent is likely a Ventline Vanair VP-543. Here's a diagram to help you determine if that's what you have:...
