Question, we all know that the emmsions systems that they used in this era were doing more harm than good, anyone have any experiance or a lead to any information about removing and nullifying things such as the smog pump and the air injection? Dont have any prior experience myself with a mass density EFI system.

I know this is a old post. But on the air pump, It introduces fresh air into the exhaust system to help the catalytic converter remove excessive hydrocarbons (unburnt fuel) Converters combined oxygen with carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons to produce carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). We also have a EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation) system. The EGR recirculates some engine exhaust back to the engine combustion chambers. This changes the oxygen in the incoming air fuel charge and provides gases inert to combustion to act as absorbents of combustion heat to reduce peak in-cylinder temperatures which reduces knocking and pinging and nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) which are green house gasses. In short, removing the AIR pump can cause excessive hydrocarbons that cause converter failure like a misfire, And not having a properly working EGR increases internal cylinder temps causing the need for higher octane fuel and possible premature engine failure.
