Generator Overhaul....Fuel Pump replacement w/pictures
I have to pull and overhaul the the generator in the 190 this week. The Local shop that handles Onan parts are incompetent to say the least. Ya... I know .. bitch bitch bitch.

I expect more and more people will have to do this sooner or later. Mind taking pictures or at least writing up what you do? And how much it costs?
I actually replaced mine a couple years back - they weren't able to determine the problem without stripping it down, and it could've been as much as $1000 to fix it... and then I would've been left with other parts that were approaching 20 years old, too... I think mine was about $2200 to replace.

Gen overhaul
The Generator works fine the motor needs rings and bearings. the insulation around the generator all came loose. So as long as I have it out I will do an overhaul. When we had the 28ft Airstream and would go on a trip My wife would ask why I bothered to go on vacation if all I was going to do was pull wrench on someones RV. The Money I made paid for a lot of gas and extended many a trip. Ever try to find a Mechanic early on a Sunday Morning? Water pumps die at 1 in the afternoon between 30 mile freeway exits. Alternators just after dark and 100 miles from the campground where you made reservations a year ago. The air conditioning will quit at 1 in the morning after the hottest day of the year for that area. The inside dual tire that goes flat is all-ways on the traffic side. I will be happy to document the Generator overhaul.

Yeah, if that's what's wrong, the rebuild makes sense. In my case, it would shut down after you left off the start switch (not stalling - it was shutting itself down, so it was detecting some problem).

I removed one this week as it required a new fuel pump. The fuel lines were looking a little rough so I replaced them all also.
Diane's gen has 560 hours on it at this point.
I started it up on the bench with the cover off and let her run for about a half-hour under load and did notice a slight amount of blow-by...which is directed through a small hose back to the cooling fan area at left.
NOTE the Onan inline fuel filter in this first picture in the center (when cover removed)...
ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP SHOWN BELOW.....

Genset overhaul
I pulled the genset and cured the compartment insulation problem. Cleaned the carb. for the third time. compression check ,good. Problem was bad fuel lines. I installed a canister filter on the frame rail and used fuel hose for fuel injection. this type hose does not break down with menthanol mixed fuels. no problems since then. From the amount of stuff collected by the filter I suspect I have a lot more fuel line to replace .
