Cruise Control- Replacement ideas and suggestions
After bringing our 93 in on a recall for the cc, found out the unit is shot!
Bad news since I like using it.
cost to replace OEM- Over $900 in parts and labor. Ford must think they are a German Automaker now. Have not seen these kind of costs since I owned a VW Jetta and blew out a throttle body unit.
Has anyone used an aftermarket product?
Have found a couple that are under $400.

Wow! $900? RockAuto has the module for $65. (Unfortunately I can't link directly to it, but you can find it in the rockauto.com catalog.) Personally I'd pull the hood and engine cover, find where the cable connects to the throttle body, then follow it back to the cruise control unit and see how hard it would be to replace yourself.

The CC worked from San Diego until the base of the mountain pass on I 15 when I shut it off. Then when I cleared the San Bernadino's I tried to put it back on. No Go!
Ford recall was for a wiring harness? which they replaced. After a diagnostic they claim the servo is bad?
Bums luck I guess. If only one part is shot I want to hunt it down and see how hard it is to replace myself(or have someone else do)

Well its the Servo assembly. I strongly suspect that it is actually a wire chewed by my friend the PackRat. My mechanic may have missed this one when he was replacing all the vacum hoses and other little wires on the top end of the engine.
I am going to look(when this heat breaks) in the engine compartment after consulting my e350 detailed manual(wiring diagrams) and check all this stuff first, if it truly is the servo assembly I have found a number of sources for this part.
Who knew I would use my Quota of cuss words up in less than a week!

I replaced the cruise control servo on my '94 this summer. It's a pretty simple operation to swap out, I'd suggest getting the part and have at it. (still $470ish from a Ford dealer- the one listed on Rock Auto is the wrong part. nothing on mine even looked like the party they sent). I'd run down all the wiring first, to make sure it's all good.
