Installing Pop-Out Windows.
I’m finally getting around to refurbishing the rear doors. The seal on the rear, drivers side window had failed and was leaking - big time! Since the window needed to come out to have the seal replaced, I did a bit of hunting to see if I could replace them with the ever elusive pop-out kind.
Thanks to TJ, another member on the forum, I was able to quickly locate not one, but all 3 needed to replace both rear and the fixed passenger side windows The doors are still a work in progress, I’m hoping to have all the work finished in a few weeks, but I wanted to share some quick pics of the pop-outs. I will detail the process further when I have more time to post — and reveal a cool “mystery” feature Airstream had hidden in the rear door . Stay tuned!
Ps. Don’t worry. We will be very careful to not let carbon monoxide fumes into the rig while using the new windows

Well it took forever but here it is... the reveal of the hidden feature!
I discovered it when I was refurbishing the rear cargo door panels. They looked so old and blah.
When I popped off the trim panel I spotted it: It was hard to see but as I was examining the condition of the pink insulation, I found it: Well, how about that! It would be so handy to lock and unlock all of the doors. From the stern of this ship.

Re: Installing Pop-Out Windows.
It took a bit of measuring twice and cutting three times, but I finally got it mounted in the door panel.
Looks like I installed the switch upside down. No worries, I popped it out and gave it a quick spin around:
10/10 upgrade and the price was right! Looks like I installed the switch upside down. No worries, I popped it out and gave it a quick spin around:

Nice find on the switch. I wonder why they didn't incorporate it! The back door looks good.

Re: Installing Pop-Out Windows.
bet ya a nickel that a rear door locking mechanism is pretty handy to have in a cargo Van. These are just stock cargo vans built out, are they not? Looks like airstream didn't think it be selling point for an RV. Especially on a 99' where one would have to climb through a bathroom wall to get out of rear door.skater wrote:Nice find on the switch. I wonder why they didn't incorporate it! I'm curious as to what other hidden features can be found on our B's.

Re: Installing Pop-Out Windows.
Well darn it Chris! Now I have to go pop off my rear door panels and see if that switch was available (and hidden) in the '93 models! LOL
Seriously, great find. I like how you installed it and quite the handy addition!

Well. I popped off the panel on my 92 and dug around - no dice. I'd love to find one on the side door too, but I haven't looked yet. Chris, did yours have one on the side door to beginn with?190-b-651 wrote:Kentuckian I was thinking the same thing.

No. It did not have one already installed. And to be honest, I didn’t look when I had that door panel off. Hmmm.ZachS wrote:Well. I popped off the panel on my 92 and dug around - no dice.
