SoftStart RV for air conditioner

Has anyone installed one of the SoftStart RV devices in their roof top AC unit? It is expensive but supposed to prevent the momentary power spike that occurs when the ac compressor starts. My generator has to struggle to keep going when the compressor kicks on. Hubert

Re: Water Tank Fell Off

Sheila, I have a 1998 B190 and my freshwater tank also fell off in 2008 while I was driving(see post in this forum). Fortunately I was able to stop quickly and gather up the tank and outside metal liner before too much damage was done to the tank or the van. The workmanship for attachment of the tan...

Re: cut off in gas line to generaator

slapthecat, That is a great setup. I do not have the room you have between the side of the generator compartment and the generator. So I was thinking about putting a cut off valve (behind the black access door to the generator) in the short gas line to the carburetor. It will be tight but I think it...

cut off in gas line to generaator

I was reading in another rv forum that people had installed a cut off in the gasoline line to the generator. This enables one to cut off the gas supply to the generator and burn all the fuel in the generator to prevent varnish/gum from forming in the carburetor during storage. On my 98 airstream, wi...

Re: Does Anyone Have a 2000 B190

Hi, I have a 1999 B190 (Airstream said it was 99, but the chassis is 98) and my fresh water tank fell off from under the camper when the tank was about 2/3s full of water. Now that will ruin your day. It was dragged on the road a short distance in front of the rear axle but I was able to stop and pu...

Re: Fuse on back of control board?

The fuse holder checked ok. Ended up pulling the generator out and found a loose ground at the starter. Starter showed some wear on the bendix so I am replacing the starter and electric fuel pump (just because gen is out), changing the spark plug and adjusting the valves. Also replacing the rubber g...

Planck,
Thanks for reminding me to check the fuse holder. I had not thought of that. Will do tomorrow.

Re: Fuse on back of control board?

Slapthecat, Thanks for the link. That is extremely useful for onan and a lot of other stuff. I don't seem to have the relay (#13 in your illustration from an earlier post). My microlite 2800 is apparently the newer one (mine is a 98 model B190) that does not have the glass fuses and the k2 relay beh...

Re: Fuse on back of control board?

Thanks slapthecat. Very helpful. Don"t think it's #22 fuse because I have a 98 with the new style 5 amp fuse on the right side. This fuse shows continuity when I test it with the multimeter. I'm betting it's #13 relay. Thanks again. I'll let you know.

Re: Fuse on back of control board?

Skater, I tried starting the van engine, then tried to crank the gen, but once again the gen would not crank. After studying the Onan microlite 2800 service manual,I'm betting my problem is the control fuse F1 is open, or the relay K2 is defective or the starter is defective. Problem is I have not b...

Re: Fuse on back of control board?

Well I pulled my battery out, took it to Advance and got it checked for dead cells and everything else their machine checks for. The battery checks out 100% ok. Cleaned all terminals at battery to bright and silver. Still no crank. Back to square 1. Any thoughts/suggestions much appreciated. Hubie

Re: Fuse on back of control board?

I had thought about the possibility of a bad battery, but I tested the battery under load and it checked ok. Nonetheless I will jump the coach battery with a known good battery. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Fuse on back of control board?

Does anyone know if there is a replaceable fuse on the back of the control board in an Onan microlite 2800 genset? My generator will not crank, just a couple of clicks then silence. Coach battery is strong and plenty of gas in clear fuel filter. The 5 amp fuse on the right side of the control panel ...

The house (cabin) battery is located in a metal box enclosure on the passenger side of the van at the rear. Open the right rear door and remove the wood panel immediately in front of you which covers the battery box. There she sits...
