UPdate:

If you want to use Havelock wool to insulate your van, order it waaaaaaay in advance, as it's taking forever (relative to Amazon hehe) to get to me.
They have to run out and sheer it from the sheep on order. ;)

If you're interested in this, look carefully at the ceiling - there are signs of leaks. It's a beautiful build otherwise.

Re: 190 wanna B

There are a few things here and there, like the V10 engine is known for popping spark plugs, but it's a well known problem and there are kits to fix it if it does happen. Of course the 460 is known to be very thirsty all the time, so there's good and bad. For the beds: The overhead bunk is essential...

Re: New member from middle TN

It's theoretically possible, but not easy to do. You'd have to cut new holes for the tanks and seal the old ones. I'm trying to put a shower pan down on the floor that the toilet will also sit on (in its current position), then I just need to reroute the plumbing for the shower. Someone on the FB gr...

Re: Remodel of my 1996

And as an aside, Airstream could have prevented that panel from falling apart if they had simply painted the back side. I'm going to make a recommendation here to all the folks doing van builds/remodels, take the time to prime and paint the wood you use in your rig. All of it. Supports, furring str...

Re: 1997 B170. Yes. B170

Patrick on the Facebook group was able to find some info on these. Apparently a very few were made by Airstream, mostly intended for Japan. His quote from someone in the factory was: "Airstream built 25 of these units in 1996 for Fuji Automotive in Japan which had the low style top like this. T...

Turns out…it was the turn signal switch! I guess the brake lights run through that switch? Weird that the rear blinkers worked just fine if the switch was faulty.
Glad you figured it out! I forgot to check the wiring diagrams for you. :(

Re: How to make the captains chairs swivel?

The cable is only about 4” long and just hanging solo from the passenger seat support with no other cable in sight. And no left arm rest, much less a plastic lever to pull. I’m somewhat at a loss. I only have a 4-5 month season to use the van up here in Alaska, so I don’t want a project that will t...

Re: Brake Light Issue…

So I checked the switch on the brake pedal with a multimeter. It seems to be functioning correctly. (Voltage from one of the wires all the time; voltage from the other wire only when I depress the pedal.) I’m guessing this means it’s probably a wiring issue somewhere between the brake pedal switch ...

Re: How to make the captains chairs swivel?

Very likely. On mine, lifting one of the handles on the arms (left, I think), will allow the chair to rotate. But the cable is routed into a piece of plastic in that lever, which can break. I think it's less likely the cable itself is broken. I would see if I can pull the cable to get the mechanism ...

Re: Brake Light Issue…

Your '88 probably doesn't have any sort of electronic modules that would be involved in this. I suspect a simple wiring issue, somewhere.

Re: Brake Light Issue…

What year? I'm wondering if you have two different problems. Maybe the brake light switch on your pedal is bad, and maybe the flasher is bad. Also check they have a good ground but something tells me it's not that. Another possibility is damage to the wiring harness somewhere. Not sure where to tell...
