Re: Battery maintenance system: Solar & 120v
There is a simple LED replacement for the ceiling fluorescent light: Thin-Lite, the manufacturer of the original ceiling fluorescent in my 1993 Airstream 190, now makes LED versions of many of their fixtures. These produce way more light per watt than the fluorescent versions. The stock ceiling fixt...

Re: Onan generator survey
Mike, I have a StowAway2 with a "standard" box and a fixed frame (as opposed to a swingaway frame). When mounted on the rear trailer hitch receiver of my 1993 Airstream 190, the lid rubs slightly against my rear-door-mounted spare tire when it is opened, but it does open (note that I have ...

Re: Onan generator survey
Mike, I'm afraid I don't recall the material under the generator; your plywood/metal guess sounds right, though. I assume the lack of a generator drain plug access opening was a mistake on Airstream's part. In other words, that it was in the plans but got missed on some vehicles. By the way, I have ...

Changing oil in the Onan Microlite 2.8: When I first got my 1993 Airstream 190, I found that there was no provision to change the oil in the built-in Onan generator (without removing it from the vehicle, that is). I determined that the generator had an oil drain port in the bottom, but Airstream had...

Re: Onan generator survey
I have the original Onan Microlite 2.8 in my 1993 Airstream 190. Not long after acquiring my 190, I found that the voltage and frequency from the Onan were both way off. I ended up cleaning the carburetor and adjusting the generator. I got the adjustment pretty close, though it still hunts a little ...

Re: Upgrade converter, add bat. bank & trimetric monitor
Mike, I actually left the seatbelts installed. I just put metal brackets under their bolts to allow a tie point for the battery hold-down straps. I also added extra reinforcement at the other end of the bolts (essentially big washers to spread the load). You're right, the battery boxes would address...

Re: Upgrade converter, add bat. bank & trimetric monitor
I have a somewhat similar setup in my 1993 Airstream 190: - Three Odyssey PC2150 AGM batteries (100Ah each) - A PROsine 2.0 inverter/charger (2000-watt inverter, 100-amp charger) - A TriMetric 2025RV battery monitor Here are some thoughts and questions: - Rather than the Optima yellow-top group 31 b...

Re: 1993 B190 Airstream
Donavon, There are a few small details in your description that don't sound quite right to me: - The GVWR is actually 9,400lbs. It's the empty weight that's 7,600lbs. - The propane tank is not 35 gallons but 35 pounds; that's about 8 gallons. (The gas tank, however, IS 35 gallons.) - It comes not wi...

Re: Air intake opening too far too fast
In some catalytic converters there are multiple distinct blocks of the honeycomb material that performs the converter's function. It can happen that one of the blocks comes loose or becomes damaged while leaving the rest in place. It's sometimes possible to break up the damaged block from the outsid...

Re: Coach Battery
I'm not quite clear on how these symptoms relate (dead battery, blown fuse). However, as I recall, the 12 volt element in the original RM2310 refrigerator was about 125 watts, which would mean about 1.15 ohms. It's been awhile since I had an RM2310, but I think you can get at the connections (from t...

Re: Adding Propane Capacity
As a start, here are my incomplete notes on some devices that might get you part way there: Extend-a-Stay (by Marshall Brass, possibly no longer available) Allows running internal appliances from external tanks and external appliances from coach tank. If I recall correctly, Standard included the fit...

Re: Where is the propane tank
In my 1993 Airstream 190 the propane tank is on the passenger side, under (and, I believe, slightly to the rear of) the side doors. I found that due to the angle of the fill port most propane fill nozzles were pushed into the ground, making filling difficult at best. I thus purchased male and female...

Re: Cigarette lighter power source?
Wakeslayer, If your house and starting battery are jumpered together (by which I assume you mean they have a wire connecting their respective positive terminals), they will both always read the same voltage, regardless of their condition. Ideally you'd want to disconnect them from each other, fully ...

Re: Cigarette lighter power source?
In my 1993 Airstream 190 I initially used cheap group 51 or 51R starting batteries (i.e., not deep cycle). As would be expected, these didn't work well because they were small (thus not many amp hours) and weren't deep cycle (thus didn't last many cycles). I then switched to an Optima group 31 yello...
