I used Cuervo 4x4 in San Diego.
He’s great and affordable.
That is a great looking B190!

Re: Buying it back...

I've come to the conclusion I can't reinstall the windows until the interior is in place. Now that I've come to that decision, it's somehow easier to accept that the van will be under a tarp for a while. Wish my garage was tall enough for it! Why can't you reinstall the windows? And cutting those f...

Re: Buying it back...

As an aside, I had to cover the hole in the side of the van where the water heater was. So I used a scrap piece of luan that I put poly on just to get me through the winter until I could get a more permanent fix. The first pic here is the luan after a pretty heavy rain. It looks like it's completely...

Re: Buying it back...

It's been a while, and some things have changed. It's been totally gutted. Glad I bought one in good condition, lol. IMG_0546.jpg IMG_0645.jpg Anyhow, the reinstall is currently underway. I've resealed all the windows, and clamped a 1"oak strip under each clamping ring. IMG_0647.jpg IMG_0646.jp...

Re: Buying it back...

Looks like I haven't updated this lately, but that's partially because I haven't done much over the winter. I did manage to get a day to work on it yesterday though! Still working on removing parts of the interior so I can remove the walls and redo them to address the water damage. I managed to get...

Re: Remodel of my 1996

I'll be putting sound deadening mats in this weekend, as well as re-painting the spare tire holder so I can put that back on the back door. Once the mats are on the back door, I'll insulate it and put the panel back on. I'm going to put the same type of construction on the side wall that I put up ne...

Re: Remodel of my 1996

Getting ready for our first trip, I built a quick platform for the dog so he'd have a place to sleep, then I mocked up the vertical panels which has led me to realize that I'll have to modify the build. I end up with a 6 inch gap at the widest area which would be an incredible waste of insulation in...

Re: Remodel of my 1996

Back support is up, going to tape up the wiring, maybe re-install a light here or there, put some ply over the gennie where the couch was with a blanket and some pillows for the dog and take this thing on a road trip!

Minimalist comes to mind.....

Re: Remodel of my 1996

Here's how the side of the van top looks with the supports installed. The horizontal pieces sticking off the ends of the ceiling supports are temporary and only there to hold the top of the luan against the side wall while the glue dries, I'll take them off after about a week or so. I'm going to ins...

Re: Buying it back...

I should have added that I'll mount the wall over the window, then build the frame to cover the transition from the window to the wall.

Re: Buying it back...

I just put the DS window back in my van this weekend. I had to frame out the surround with wood in order to provide enough resistance for the inside clamping ring to pull the window tight against the outside of the van. Same issue, first try I had a lot of gaps around the flange, once I supported t...

Re: Hehr no longer makes the bunk windows for '97 and up

One of the guys doing a restoration has a video of fiberglassing over one of the top window openings. I suspect he was doing that because of being unable to replace it. Doesn't look difficult to seal the opening with the fiberglass, but I'm wondering if there are other windows that might come close ...

Re: Buying it back...

Installed the new third brake light today! Tried to reinstall the window...did not go well. Removed it again. The fiberglass is a bit curved in the area, so the corners of the window were out away from the top. Gonna have to think about this. Might have to do one of my wood "frames" aroun...

Re: New Owner in Augusta, GA

Hi everyone! My wife and I just picked up a '97 last week with 60k miles on it. We've already pulled the sofa for new upholstery as well as the RM2310 fridge and have a nova kool 4500 on order. I'm sure we'll be here a lot for reference material. Yep, that's how I started. Now, well, I still have t...
