Re: Replacing the Fresh and Gray Tanks

Alaskan, I think you are right, the tanks I took out looked a lot like the ones in your photos.

I like your new drain setup. I though I might point it straight down like your's.

Re: Light bulbs...

I just changed all the bulbs and fluorescents in my rig to LEDs. I'm getting that thing pretty buffed out!

Re: Replacing the Fresh and Gray Tanks

I know, I'm bummed. I was almost thinking of cutting the top of the tank off, taking out a 2" strip and then gluing the pieces back together, using the 2" strip as a band around cut. It's the top of the tank, so it's not load bearing and and there must be some sort of glue that would hold ...

Re: How does the refer work?

I used the fridge on propane on a trip last weekend and was pleasantly surprised! We put a bag of ice in the freezer, (for drinks) and in the two pretty hot days were were out, it didn't melt at all. The refer kept things cool enough. Pretty psyched about that, I didn't really feel like I wanted to ...

Re: Replacing the Fresh and Gray Tanks

Well, if it was the fresh tank, it would be lower that I'd have wanted but still high enough, I'd have lived with it. It's the gray tank and is at the very back of the rig and is ending up no higher than the old gray tank. It hangs about 6 inches below the trailer hitch so any movement up in the fro...

Re: Replacing the Fresh and Gray Tanks

Aw, dang! The gray water tank is too big! I measured it wrong!

Anyone want to buy a tank?

Re: Replacing the Fresh and Gray Tanks

They just arrived and I just called the welder about making the "tray" for them. The fresh water tank came .5 inch longer than I expected and then I didn't think to figure in the protrusion of the fittings. They they stick 1" and 1.5" out from the tank. It'll all work but the wel...

Re: Stabilizer Bars

Installed mine last night!

It was pretty much easy peasy. I had to buy a 1/2" bit that fit into my 3/8" drill but that was money well spent.

I've put off the solar for next year, btw.

Re: How does the refer work?

Thanks.

Next summer I'm going full blown solar on my rig. I may replace the refer with an Isotherm http://www.indelwebastomarineusa.com/ho ... epage.html this year.

How does the refer work?

So how does the refer stay powered? If I’m plugged in to shore power, sure, no problem. What about 12v? Won’t that eventually drain the battery? You can’t just turn off and on the refer, you have to run it a while to cool it down and then keep it cooled down don't you? On my way home from Yosemite, ...

So I'm thinking of replacing the fridge in my rig. The Norcold is the one to get?

Re: Member Sighting?

I haven't seen another one yet.

I was parked in a shady spot in Yosemite, reading and napping a few weeks ago. Someone rode by on their bike and yelled "Nice rig"!

Re: Speaking of tires....

I stopped at a Les Schwab in Gardnerville, but they didn't have all five tires. The Carson City store did but it was 14 miles away. As I was leaving the guy says to me "drive careful on those tires".

I drove like I was on eggshells!

Speaking of tires....

Did you know that OLD tires are BAD tires? I found that out on the maiden trip to Yosemite and back (1600 miles) recently. Just outside of Reno, I started feeling a bump, bump, bump. I got out and looked but didn't find anything. The next day it got way worse and actually shook the generator exhaust...

Re: Replacing the Fresh and Gray Tanks

Here is a photo of the tanks I took out.
They were encased in sheet metal boxes and hung from various parts of the frame and floor via a flange on their tops.
