Re: Toilet odor when driving
Is the plumbing vent pipe okay? Well, I don't know for sure. It certainly smells stinky when I go up on the roof so I assume there is some airflow there. It is a pretty long and torturous run of pipe from the black tank vent to where it combines with the grey tank vent in the closet area before pun...

Re: Water Tank Fell Off
Both my grey and freshwater tank enclosures/mounts were sagging so I decided to shore them up. I used some pipe hanger strap to replace a missing strap on the grey water tank and used two ratchet straps to support the freshwater tank. I know this may not be as good as replacing the old rusty enclosu...

Re: Toilet odor when driving
The easiest fix that I did, and it solved it instantly, was to install a MaxxAir fan which has reversible airflow. We thought about going that route but the fantastic fan works ok, especially since I installed a PWM speed controller, and we don't want to put more money into a new fan. I guess I mig...

Re: Toilet odor when driving
OK so our rig is smelling when we run the fan which we do a lot because we prefer to boondock. When we first started doing this we noticed it smelt pretty bad like stinky tank odor. Step1. We replaced the vent with the weather vane style (side note here: our 1998 has a combined vent from the black a...

Re: Noticed this 99 walk-around
That's a real nice van. Our 98 bunk does not pull out that far and we have extra cabinet space. Does anyone know if this was an option? I kind of wish we had a bigger bunk but we have adapted to my wife sleeping up in the kid-size bunk area with one pooch while I sleep on the sofa with the other poo...

Re: A/C stopped
We actually ran our A/C last weekend connected to a random outdoor outlet by a long skinny extension cord (yes Texas in June is plenty hot). The A/C worked OK but you could tell it was :( because randomly on some cycles the compressor would not kick on at first and then it would try again with succe...

Re: Newbie Here :)
It seems the process to convert w/o an axle swap is definitely doable but still not trivial. Here is the first of a three-part series on a conversion (and some maintenance) from drums to disk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gR8rhcb8el8 If you have the money you can pick up a Sterling rebuilt axle f...

Re: Newbie Here :)
I saw some people get disc brakes by replacing the whole axle with a more modern one, typically when they want to change the gear ratio when they do a 4x4 conversion.
Rear drum bakes are really not that bad and are pretty low maintenance.

Padded toilet cover replacement
Our old Thetford galaxy/starlite had a padded cover that was pretty old and torn in a couple places. I removed it by drilling out the rivets. I traced the old pad and had a piece of 1/8” birch plywood laser cut to replace it. 100E90CF-BD8D-4569-B2F2-4980345C93CB.jpeg I tried to stain it which was so...

Doghouse and bunk organizer
My wife made these great organizers. She sewed them up with custom pocket sizes and we used snaps to attach them. They came out pretty good, but we didn't account for the curve of the doghouse so the pockets for our water bottles are a little snug.

Re: House battery
What year is yours? Mine is a 1998 with a battery box under the passenger rear of the van. If I ever upgrade to lithium I'm going to stick them behind the couch next to the generator where there is ton of unused space.

Re: A/C stopped
I would guess you would need at least a mostly dedicated 15A circuit.
