Heya - quick helpsies?

Do I need a plug and to refill some fluid? Is this the... transmission? Located centrally immediately under the engine (if you can't tell from the picture).

I must have missed that day in auto-tech class...

Thanks!

MP,
I'm having a hard time getting oriented with your close in photo. Can you post a second photo from further back so we can get better oriented?

Also what year E350 and which engine do you have?

Kentuckian -

I have a couple photos they're just too large and i'm horrible at formatting.

It's a '94 with a 7.3 I believe (you'll have to excuse me, I have a couple of trucks and i've been working on all of them lately, so my 5's, 7's, and 3's are all confused right now).

Thanks for your help.

That looks to me like the access hole (sometimes called an inspection hole) for the transmission torque converter drain plug.

I believe there's normally a rubber plug to keep dirt and debris out of the transmission bellhousing.

(Note that not all E4OD torque converters actually have drain plugs, but the access hole is there anyway.)

You, sir, are exactly right. All it needs is a rubber boot to cover it - crisis averted.

Thanks for the help gentlemen.
