Auto fluid

Post by Plazmaduck »

Hi

Can anyone tell me which type of ATF fluid is used on a 96 7.5 petrol Auto box, and also what the quantity is?

Thanks in advance

1996 takes Mercon. Basically the bottle should say Dexron/Mercon. A pan service with filter will take 7-8 quarts You can drain the converter through the rubber plug on the bell housing lining up the 7/16 plug with the hole for another 5-6 quarts. The transmission will hold approximately 16 quarts dry (overhaul)

Thanks David.

Question is which variant of Dexron, the III? Seems there's quite a selection and being based in the UK, I'll need an equivalent.

Here in the states the bottles say DexronIII/Mercon When I rebuild the transmission in my B I used Valvoline full synthetic DexIII/Merc. I usually just recommend a brand name fluid but I always put the good stuff in my own vehicles.
Edit:
I was on a UK sight and the listings are way different then here. I found Castrol Transmax Dex III that is also listed as Mercon up to 1996. That will be basically what you are looking for.
