Mitchell Gear Splitter

Had a cool experience the other day. My Okanagan Camper came with a Mitchell Gear Splitter installed. It sits between the tranny and the rear end, giving you a high and low option. These units are fairly rare, but the company is still in business. I called to ask a few questions and the lady says hold on, let me get my Grandma! I end up talking to Grandma Sue and she tells me how her husband started the company but as transmissions began adding overdrive and computers, there was less and less demand. They still make them in use on old ford model Ts. It was just so nice to actually get help on a product they haven't made in over 25 years and such a nice lady.ImageImageImageImage

Great story. Now it's only wine in Healdsburg!

Really interesting.

I wonder what prompted them to install it - more offroad usage, maybe?
