Front end face lift... headlights & grill

Post by Kentuckian »

I thought I would share the latest of our projects to refurbish our '93 B190. Do you notice how much faded headlight lenses age a vehicle? Our headlight assemblies showed that hazy condition and our grill was missing the chrome trim piece at the top. Again the internet was our friend... We found replacement headlamp assemblies for about $30 and a replacement grill off of ebay for about $60. So this set us back less than $100 in parts to do this face lift. I am really, pleased. I think It makes the B look years younger.

Easy job.
Headlamps...
Lift four levers, unplug lights, remove old headlamp buckets, install new ones.

Grill...
Five phillips screws.

I did similar on our 93, but bought the plastic lens polishing kit instead. If you take a look at the upper chrome grill piece you can see why yours was missing. Poor design for retention. I added some epoxy in strategic places to keep the 2 pieces from separating.

I saved my old headlight assemblies. I'm planning to try my hand at polishing them and put them on the shelf as backups. I was too impatient to wait for the time to polish them!

Thanks for the tip on epoxying the chrome trim. That's a good idea. Next dry day, I'll do the same!

I polish the plastic headlights on my car, and it works, for a while. You have to redo it every few months.

But that's a nice spruce-up. Good job!

Identical problems as my '94 , ....chrome strip and all. It looks great! ...I'd like to know where you bought the lenses as well. Rick

For those wanting to purchase headlight assemblies, here is a link to the ones that I purchased for my B. Checking my invoice, parts cost was $38.01 for the pair including bulbs. It looks like they have gone up a little bit. Fit and finish was same as the ones I took out.

Swapped out my headlights this morning. What an easy repair!!

Thanks Kentuckian for the link. I think it was $42 delivered for the pair. I want to say that local parts shop thought they were over $100 per, which is why I had not put it at the top of the list.
