Awnings on late model 190's?
Hi, all.
Anybody actually have or had an awning on their later Airstream 190 model (with the redesigned top, approx. 1996 or 1997 and later)?
My 1999 didn't come with an awning and it's not obvious to me what would work amongst the current makes and models available, so I was wondering what is known to work on these later years.
I have not yet found any photos in the google-world of a late-model 190 with an awning, only the earlier years (with the longer cab-over).
Thanks!

Hey Tim. I have a 1999 with owners manuals and parts guide. No mention of an awning nor have I seen one on later models 97,98,99. However, they may exist....

Yeah, my owners manual has no mention of an awning, either.
I've gotten the impression that one problem with the newer topper may be that it doesn't present a flat surface (front to back) to mount an awning to. Any rigid awning type (e.g. case awning) might need custom bracketry to accommodate the fore and aft curvature. And then you'd have to deal with the gap between the awning and the topper towards the front and rear. Maybe a bag awning would work on a standard awning rail, but I'm not personally familiar with them, so I don't know how well they can absorb the curvature and still set properly.
It may be that somehow Airstream didn't notice that they wouldn't be able to mount an awning when they accepted the redesign of the topper, which would be surprising and disappointing considering how many of the older models seem to have awnings.

Cool!
MichaelC, do you know the make, model, and size of the awning on "Baby Newell II"? Any possibility of getting some closeups of the mounting hardware, how it fits against the curved topper, etc.?

Re: Awnings on late model 190's?
I don't have our manuals handy but the awning on our 1998 is Dometic Horizon. It's mounted relatively low on the top section to avoid the stove exhaust vent. I don't have close-ups pictures of the mounting brackets but the front and rear brackets fill in the approximate 1" gap while the central section of the awning is resting directly on the fiberglass.
When the awning legs are extended the fabric is nearly horizontal and does not provide much slope for water to run off. In the attached picture the awning legs are in the lowest position.

I've included more photographs. You can see how the series of brackets account for the space as well as the angle of the roof. Hope these help.
By the way, I called Airstream a while back for some other parts specific to the B190 front window in the bunk area. They indicated parts were available. Perhaps the same is true for the awning brackets.

Re: Awnings on late model 190's?
I have the same awning on my 1996 as nvestysly. I just purchased an "Add-A-Room" from the Bus Depot http://www.busdepot.com/addg
I will send some pics of the set-up soon. The awning is very helpful--usually set it up with a little angle to let rain run off. We had it up during a pretty rough storm--two stakes on each support and then another stake with some rope--held up well and it is was a major thunderstorm.
