Upper windows on '89

Post by BouldAndBeautiful »

Has anyone had to replace one of the front upper windows on an '89 B190? I have an '87 Okanagan (almost the same van) which has very similar windows but one is now broken.

I managed to find the Hehr part number on the window frame, but it's so old that ParKin couldn't provide a new pane for it. So, I cut a substitute from 1/8" thick, black HDPE on a CNC router, and I got new rubber for the gasket from ParKin. The CNC step took a couple tries to get the dimensions just right, and I've posted a drawing of the dimensions I ended up with. I'll add more photos once there's a little less snow on the vehicle.

This is good as it is my next step in my restoration. Anything else anyone might want to add before I start?

Be patient with yourself on the window vinyl. It only goes in by brute force, and not very quickly. On my vehicle, the stuff was available from here: http://www.parkin-acc.com/page53.html It was cross-section #G. If you're replacing a pane, make sure to thoroughly clean out the old window frame before putting in the new butyl sealant. I got good results with acetone.

Brute force, I have. Patience, on the other hand, ....

Thank you.
