How to fix leaking front windshield?!?

Post by slapthecat »

I have a leak in my windshield - confirmed with soapy water on the rim and air blown from inside (BUBBLES!)

I've called autoglass places about a reseal or leak repair, and am having no luck. The one place that offered anything said the glass was too old to guarantee it would reseal properly and suggested replacing - but because of the age of the vehicle and the unknown frame underneath (rust?) they won't guarantee against leaks with a new window.

So - I'm thinking of pulling the chrome trim and trying to seal with some urethane window adhesive. Any thoughts?!? Any experiences?!?!

I have the same issues with water coming through the top left hand corner. It looks like the previous owner had lifted the rubber seal on mine on the right side and injected a ton of silicone into it and I'm not getting any leaks on that side. My plan is to take the seal off, clean the silicone off that one side and redo with Loctite PL on both of the corners. I'm going to try to use as little as possible by by running something over the new sealant so that there are no big blobs of it.

I you want the easy way out, I saw someone mentioning this working. In which case you won't have to remove anything and just apply it from the outside.
