Fiberglass top discoloration

Post by Knox_Gal »

Please note the different colored areas on the rear fiberglass top near the Airstream logo. Does anyone know how to return the area to a uniform color? The unit was cleaned prior to the creation of the photos.

Get one of those thin green kitchen scrubby pads and a large container of vaseline. Some vaseline on a scrubber and very little elbow grease and that fiberglass comes out clean and shiny. There are products they sell for this purpose but vaseline works great.

To date, have attempted to clean the fiberglass top via these suggested remedies:

petroleum jelly/scratchie
Flitz
Gel Gloss
white vinegar solution
Bar Keeper's Friend
polishing compound

Nothing helps; it just gets dirtier to the point where it's embarrassing to attend rallies. Saw a remedy on B190 Nation this week involving an electric polisher, but am hesitant to invest in one of those due to past results. Any other thoughts? Thank you

I'm not sure that would work, either. The polisher still needs some compound to work. The 'ultimate' solutions would be repainting it or wrapping it in vinyl. Neither of those is going to be cheap, though.

Took the plunge on a polisher and initial results are encouraging. Here is the top as polished below the blue line. The portion above the blue line will require more work, but at least we know that the gel coat is still there.

Thanks for your comments.
