Upper Front Window

Post by Julief8 »

My B190 is a 1997 and I ordered a new upper front window through Airstream since mine is cracked. With shipping, tax and a new gasket it was over $900. The original window is plexiglass but the new one that they sent is thick tempered regular glass and is very heavy. The shop that works on my rig is having a difficult time finding a glass company who will install it and they are worried that it might not stay in because of it's weight in the fiberglass body. Does anyone have any experience with an upper front window replacement on a late model B190? This window is curved and bevilled so a flat pice of plexiglass will not work and we could not find a plastic company that would make a custom plexiglass one. In the top photo you can see the curve of the window, the second photo shows the crack... Any help and advice is greatly appreciated...

I had a rock strike damage the window in my 1998. The original window is laminated glass and has held up well in the fiberglass roof. My insurance is replacing it and I'm glad because they told me the repair is over $2200 installed with the original glass coming from Airstream. Insurance told me to wait about 5 weeks for delivery though.

I'm scratching my head on this one, because my '91 definitely has glass up there, and always did. I thought it had to be glass because it's essentially a windshield. I'm surprised someone would even put plexiglas in that location. Anyone with a 1997+ mind reporting what yours is?

I don't have any great ideas. An RV repair place installed mine and didn't mention any issues (but that might be due to the difference in years).
