Towing an Airstrteam trailer with a B190

Post by AtomEve »

Greetings!

I am hoping to tow my 1993 29' Excella with my 1995 B190. Anyone else have any experience towing a large camper trailer with your B190? Today I tow the Excella with a 2007 Suburban using a Reese weight distribution hitch. Looking to learn from others experience.

Thank you
Bryan

I haven't done it, but I've seen people doing it. What does your trailer weigh?

You're likely to be above the Gross Combined Weight Rating of the B190 (mine was 15,000 lbs), because the van itself weighs about 9,000 lbs, leaving only about 6,000 lbs for people, stuff, towed vehicles, etc. But, I've seen it done, even with a larger trailer, and haven't heard of any issues. Weight distribution is a must, as well as a good brake controller.

It's also going to be slow on the uphills, but you probably already guessed that.

I saw a very nice 30' Airstream trailer being towed by a "new" very stock looking F150 in Provincetown, MA. They had Texas plates on the tractor. I did not get to talk to them. seemed like a mighty big tow for that tractor. Looked way over capacity to my eye.

The new F150s have pretty impressive tow ratings, something like 12,000 lbs. It's enough to handle our 30' Airstream, if you don't have too much weight in the bed of the truck. We considered it for ourselves, but went with the 3/4 ton in the end.
