So during the first trip this year, the water heater pressure relief valve kicked in suddenly. I replaced the valve, but that wasn't the problem - the problem is that the water heater just keeps going until the pressure relief valve kicks in to keep it from exploding.
I self-diagnosed this to be the thermostat, so I just went and replaced it. It comes in a kit with a new ECO (Electrical Cut-Off), and a new self-adhesive foam piece. Price was about $15.
It's pretty easy - you just rotate the metal shields until you can pop one side out, then pop the new one in and rotate it to keep it from popping out, put the new foam on, and reconnect the wires.
Hopefully that solves my problem..if it's not that, it's probably the control box (sigh). I was testing it, but I accidentally switched it off in mid-test (I was reaching for the water pump switch, and hit that instead...). I'll try it again later.
