New countertops

Post by baggydew »

Any clue how to remove and replace the countertops? Are they glued in place or held in place by undercounter fasteners?

I'd guess there are fasteners and if they go down prior to the formica being installed, that will make it even more difficult

I'll take a look....stay tuned

I tore into it this afternoon. The counter is NOT glued... thank goodness. You take the drawers out and there are screws holding the top on by way of perimeter strips stapled around the top of the cabinets. The strip runs around above the drawers, but not around the sink or the outside wall except for a strip against the monitor wall. Once I unscrewed everything the counter I lifted out, sink and all. I'm having new counters made because mine lifted where it meets the monitor wall. The countertop fellow told me not to replace the beaded strip around the counter because that's where water got into the particle board...instead he said to use neither 100% silicone or run a bead of plumbers putty around the edge of the counter before reinstalling.
