Removing carpet around seat belts

Post by Cherstream »

I am FINALLY getting around to redoing by 1992 B190's interior. Have plans to install Pergo type flooring and am redoing the carpet in the cab as well. I have ripped most all of the old carpet -- a lot of elbow grease but not that bad with a sharp curved carpet/linoleum knife. However, the one area I am having problems with is around the seatbelts. It looks like I will need to remove them but it's hard to see how. It almost looks like they are attached with a star shaped screw of some sort, but it might just be a plastic pop on part on top. Does anyone have experience tips with this as I want to avoid breaking anything if possible (finding Ford parts for a van this old is proving challenging, and I even have a good friend who works for a Ford dealer).

I don't know for certain, but they certainly look like the type that just pop out. You can buy a tool at the auto parts store for a couple bucks that lets you apply leverage over a larger area, making it less like to break them.

So the plastic part in the photo just pops out. Underneath that is the star screw, a T-50 star bit did the trick (at least in my 1992 model) and they came right out!

No need to check, the T-50 did the job! Photos coming soon of the new front cab carpet and the new pergo floor in back (some challenges today that almost brought me tears, but I will get there, I have never done anything like this before).

I have been trying to post pictures to my gallery page, but they don't upload. I don't get an error message either, it just returns to the upload screen. Is it me or a technical glitch of some sort?

Odd. It worked for me just now - after the upload, it gave me a status screen telling me the upload was successful. I'd like to help but I'm not sure what to suggest... I'm not sure what would cause that problem.

I thought maybe the files were too big? But in the past it always gave me a message telling me if that was the case.
