To prevent banging to your head on the lower edge of the upper bunk as you enter the cab from the inside, get some foam pipe insulation and slip it over the wood. You may still hit your head but it won't hurt. The upper edge of the bunk can also be done in the same manner, saving your knees from bruises as you crawl in and out.
