Sidewall finish above sink

Post by baggydew »

On my "94 there was vinyl paper on the sidewall above the sink that had buckled over time. I replaced it with a thin sheet of aluminum flashing 14" wide available at Lowe's. I cut the piece to 25" and after removing the caulk, and dropping the light (two screws), slipped the flashing over the original paper covered panel and tucked it behind the wall and counter. I didn't even have to remove the faucet. I recaulked the seams when it was in place. It looks wonderful, reflects the light and adds to the "Airstream" look in the kitchenette. I also cut a piece of flashing to fit the shelf above the refer. It lays flat and stays in place for a waterproof surface.

Sounds cool. The newer Airstream trailers have aluminum interior walls, so what you did fits right in! Any pictures?

Wow-- that does look sharp! Jealous of the double sink-- it is the one option the original owners did not get! Been considering replacing my single bowl for a double bowl unit, and the countertop at the same time-- will have to add the back splash to the list!

That looks great! What are you using for the light? I'd like to get more light under there...

Weekender, keep in mind you lose a drawer if you go with the double sink.

The light came w/ the camper but it's nothing but an 18" floresent strip D/C light. It tucks nicely up under the vinyl bolster that runs across over the sink under the cabinets. Don't even notice it but love the light it gives off.

Cool, thanks for the info. I looked at your pictures again when I got home and it just looks GREAT. Makes me want to do the same to mine! :)

I edited your post above to include links to the pictures (unfortunately, the site doesn't let us directly link to pictures in the gallery...very annoying limitation that I haven't been able to find a way around yet). I hope you don't mind!
