New bathtub installation

Post by fredging »

Installed new bathtub ordered from PPL Motor Homes stock #88-4143 32x24 step r hand drain which Lyons Industries is the manufacturer #DT1832STR12 for $122.
1. Took out old tub which is 1/2" longer (32 1/2"). Tub in corner by front drain had developed cracks. Thickness of original very thin and soft vinyl.
2. There was no leakage caught it in time so all wood supporting tub in good shape.
3. Installed new sideboard in hole left open by Airstream.
4. New tub is reinforced fiberglass. Very strong to support weight.
5. Installed/glued 4x4 posts under tub platform to support new tub better
6. These were adjusted in height to allow for small difference in depth of tub
7. Reinstalled tub platform, check drain placement and height
8. Installed tub, checked level, installed drain, secured to walls, caulked.
9. Made border out of Trex to cover screws, protect for leakage and added 1/2" to back panel to make up for being short. Glued to walls and will caulk when dry

Very nice job! and thanks for the pictures! $122 for the tub seems very reasonable, at least reasonable for what I would have expected without doing any research.

Thank you very much for this post. It gave me everything I needed to replace my tub. It turned out great and a much needed improvement.
