Just bought a B190...now what?

So you just bought a B190 and are wondering what you should do now? This thread is intended to help answer that question!

First, check for open recalls from Ford! Safety first. You'll need the chassis VIN (visible under the windshield).

Second, check your tire age! Even if the tread is good, the tires might be too old to be safe. See Kentuckian's post with more info.

Third, add your Ford and Airstream VIN (on an aluminum plate under the hood) to our VIN database - help us track the B190s still around! We have about 10% of them in the database as of this writing. (Please don't clutter this thread with that info.)

Any other suggestions?

Safety item... tires

Check the condition and age of the tires. Maintain tire inflation pressure at the levels recommended by Airstream.

The previous owners may not have driven your new (to you) RV very much so the tread may look great. However, the tires could be older than recommended for safety. Check the date code on each tire and compare it to the tire manufacture's recommendation for replacement.

The general rule of thumb in the RV community seems to be to replace the tires six years after manufacture, regardless of the condition of the tires. Michelin recommends annual professional tire inspections starting in the fifth year and replacing them before the 10th year regardless of condition.

Here is a photo of where to find the manufacturing date code on your tire.
