Any ideas on why this vehicle was not available with the 7.3 Powestroke Diesel?

No idea. Maybe to keep costs down?

Someone was swapping a diesel into theirs a while back, I assume they were successful. That might have been the IDI, not the PSD though.

Could be.
I had a 7.3 in my '03 Sportsmobile, and it was one of the best engines I ever had.

Yeah, they seem to run forever. I was thinking the other day that you also have to remember the reputation diesels had in the 90s - noisy, smoky, loud, etc. Perhaps that was a factor, too. Few people wanted them back then.
