Repair/replace Onan Generator?

Hello,
I took my 1994 B190 to the mechanic to check the generator and they told me the rings were leaking oil and the motor was no good.
I am trying to find a replacement generator that will fit in the space on the Van...
If that is too much money, then I would like to know what sort of portable generator would be needed to run the units A/C??
Any information will help..
Thanks
Reed.

The Onan is the only one I could find that fits. Aside from that any generator with ~2500 watts capacity will handle it - two Honda 2000s, and Honda 3000, a Yamaha 2400 should I think, or a cheaper (albeit louder) construction generator. The issue becomes moving them with the camper.

Thanks for the help.
I'll look at those options.

I'm hoping to find a used Onan to replace the unit...

Hi All, I bought a 91 B190 a few years ago. The PO said the generator ran fine but it wouldn't start during the sale, which didn't bother me much because I was going to pull it out and convert the space to storage, which I did. I hung on to it in case I sold the rig, but after completing a cross country trip last winter I'm not going to be selling it anytime soon. I plan to put the generator up for sale but want to make sure it is ok. It only has 30 hrs on it. Question, can a shop work on these when they are out of the rig? I assume so but thought I'd ask the experts before I give a call. And once/if it is healthy I will list it on this site first. Thanks! Barry

It's actually the reverse - there's not much they can do beyond basic troubleshooting when it's IN the rig. Pulling it out is how they have to work on it.

Oh that's good to know. Thanks for that. If it checks out I'll see if anyone here would like it.
