Generator Exhaust Pipe will not stay attached

Post by SheBeast »

I am trying to figure out a way to keep the generator exhaust pipe from coming detached from my 1992 B190.

Every time I reattach the exhaust pipe to the generator it falls off again after any short drive. The pipe hanger is still attached. No matter how tight I tighten down the clamp it doesn't seem to make any difference.
It is held in place by a simple D or C clamp.
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

We fixed it. My partner notched two notches in the top of the pipe so that it can make tight compression fit. The vertical pipe was just a straight unnotched pipe so there was no room for compression and that clamp that was on it was not doing the job. The original generator exhaust must have come with a notched pipe to make a tight fit well and maybe at some point this one was replaced with the wrong kind of pipe? Hopefully, this is a permanent fix.

I just realized my generator exhaust came loose last night. The exhaust that's on it has 2 notches so i think i'm going to get a new U bolt and hopefully clamp it back up. Glad you got yours fixed, hope it lasts!
