Norcold N300.3 refrigerator

Post by Kentuckian »

The only appliance in our ‘93 B190 that we have not been able to refurbish was the factory Dometic 2310 refrigerator. For its replacement, we decided on the Norcold N300.3. The “.3” unit runs on propane, 120v and 12v. We installed it a couple of weeks ago and got it out for its maiden outing this weekend with great results.

The Norcold N300.3 is a ‘plug n play’ replacement for the factory Dometic unit. Same external dimensions and both have 2.7cubic foot capacity with similar layout and capability. The new Dometic and Norcold units are fairly similar. But, we went with the Norcold since it is made here in the in USA.

In this photo, you can see that we selected the black lexan front panel which matches nicely with the black glass of the oven across the aisle.

Here is a photo of the interior and controls.

Controls:
Far right hand dial has positions for Off, Propane, 120 volt, 12 volt.
Next is the temperature dial. Setting it in its middle position resulted in the correct refrigerator and freezer temperatures for us.
Next is a push button to hold the gas open while pressing the piezo igniter button to the far left. A gauge lies in between the igniter and gas button giving positive indication when the pilot light is lit.

Here is a photo of the Norcold from outside the camper.
Not much to it! Pull out the old one and slide the new one in its place. I did note the that Norcold seems slightly deeper than the factory Dometic. There is no room to spare. But it fit fine in my 1993.

Thanks for posting the Norcold info. Very nice to have the controls at the top instead of the bottom where it seems to always be too dark to see.

I have the old stock unit with top controls on a 1994 b190. Mine however doesn't have the 12volt option, I don't know if you can run gas while driving but I'm going to give it a shot. Where did you get the Norcold and did you have the 12volt option before??

My 1993 B190 factory Dometec fridge did have propane, 120v and 12v. So this Norcold is a drop in replacement. I bought the B190 used and the Dometec fridge was dead. So I can not compare perforance for you.

Be aware that, at least on my 1993 B, the 12volt is setup to work while you are driving and the alternator is running. When the engine is shut off you have propane and 120v as power options.

Sorry, I don't remember what company I ordered it from. It was likely -> rvpartscenter.com

I've had it out a couple of times since installing it and the unit works great. No problem making ice even on 12 volts.

Nope... no interior light. However, I haven't even thought about one. It seems well illuminated by the room lighting.

Is there any give on the fridge being level to operate properly? Our stock Dometic just doesn't work at all unless we are perfectly level all 4 directions.

Wakeslayer, I haven't really made any significant effort to level our B other than by 'eyeball' and what felt comfortable. And our Norcold has worked every time we've used it. So it would seem to not be that sensitive to how level it is.

Mike,
Sure. Give me a couple of days to put it together. I'll post the step by step along with a couple of suggestions on things that you might want to pay attention to as you make the install.
