Fridge 12v control wiring (1997+)

Post by twistedskipper »

Hi, all.

I have a 1999 B190. The fridge doesn't work on 12v, so I determined that there is no voltage on the yellow control wire at the fridge control relay behind the converter with the engine running. I traced the control wire from the relay back to a disconnected connector beneath the dash near the parking brake pedal (see photos). I can't find anything nearby to plug it into.

I've already confirmed that there is 12v on the fridge power line at the relay (the heavy black wire from the 12v panel through the circuit breaker). I also tested the relay itself and it works fine. I've also checked the continuity of the green and white wires from the relay to the fridge itself.

Does anyone know where that connector should be plugged in? Can anyone with a 1997 or later model take a look to see how theirs is set up?

Thanks!

As I recall, there are 2 electric heating elements. One is 110 volt and the other 12 volt. Access is by removing the sheetmetal cover. Should be able to test each with an ohmeter. If all wiring is hooked up, I would suspect a bad heating element. Need to disconnect the 12 volt wires to test the element. I will try to get a picture of my 93 setup for you.

I'm hoping that a 1997+ owner will be able to look under their dash near the parking brake pedal and see if they have the same connector I do, and show me what it's connected to. I'm not sure if Airstream wired the refrigerator 12v relay the same in the pre-1997 RVs.

In the meantime, next time I'm at the RV, I'll temporarily connect some other 12v source to see if the fridge at least works on 12v when it has power.

Then, if there's still no answer for the mysterious connector, I'll just do a more permanent 12v tap of my own.

SeaQuinn, photos would be great! I still can't tell where my fridge 12v is supposed to come from. Thanks!
