Running the fridge on propane

Post by squeezebox »

We have been travelling around Canada and Alaska for four months now in our B190. The fridge was working ok off the gas at the beginning but progressively got worse and now it doesn't work at all. The 12 volt is pretty useless too. We are headed for Central and South America so we will be doing a lot of dry camping and would prefer to run the fridge on the gas all the time. We will probably try find a service center somewhere along the way but just wondered if anyone out there has had the same problems and what their solution was.

Otherwise the van is running great and we could not have chosen a better vehicle for this trip. They really are the best out there.

The 12 volt mode is mostly useless. It can be used to help maintain the temperature while you're on the road, but even there it's pretty weak.

The gas mode should be working pretty well, almost as well as the 120 volt mode. If the fridge works well on 120 volt mode, then I would suspect that the gas burner assembly in the back of the fridge is clogged, or the thermostat is messed up.

I don't have any experience working on them, though. :(
