Need Indoor Tire Mount Hardware

Post by bnc » Sat Mar 09, 2019 9:11 pm

We bought our 1998 B-190 recently. It’s great but the spare tire just rolls around in the area behind the bathroom. I get the feeling that there should be mounting hardware to keep that from happening.
Does anyone have a photo of a properly mounted indoor spare tire? Or a photo of the mounting hardware itself?
Thanks much!
Bill in Sacramento.

Here is a shot from my ‘99. The bracket is black steel and is mounted to the floor.

I’ll remove the tire and post a new photo next week.

Wow, thanks Chris for those great photographs!
I don’t remember seeing anything like that aboard but I will double check.

Does anyone know where I might be able to buy that bracket? We are retiring to Mexico as soon as our house sells and I’d like the spare tire to be secure.

Hmmm. It's not a Ford part - it looks like the standard was to have the tire underneath, but that's not possible here due to the tanks. Given that, if nothing else, you can probably fabricate something, with a wood or metal frame. You could secure the tire using a few lug nut holes, which saves having to find something to cover the large axle hole. Bolt it to the floor and go. Or eTrailer sells this which isn't expensive and would give a nicer finish, used with a wood or metal frame.

Another option might be to call an Airstream dealer and ask them (or even contact Airstream), but that will likely be expensive if it's available at all.

On a related note...why in the world would someone remove that hardware? Maybe they wanted more storage and weren't worried about flat tires.

Thanks for the suggestions Skater, I’ll try the Airstream dealerships.
I think it’s weird too that a person would throw that bracket away.

Sorry it took so long to post, we were on an RV trip of the central California coast. Beautiful!
