Whats in your garage ?

Post by Choptop »

When I worked  , I got into a lot of home owners homes and garages, interesting what vehicles are behind those closed doors and under tarps. What's in your garage :?:

My project car is a '99 Mercury Cougar. I bought it new in 1999 and still own it. Just drove it 700 miles for a trip a week or two ago!

'71 chop top Chevy c10, custom paint and interior, have owned for 20 years or so, has not been on the road, sitting in the garage, for the past 7 years, another vehicle seems to come along to take my attention off it, the 22" rims I put on it in the spring were supposed to rejuvenate my interest in her, well maybe over the winter.

Yeah. :) I mean, at this point, it's long paid for, not that expensive to own, it's decently reliable, in pretty good condition (you wouldn't guess it's 18 years old), and I still love driving it. I look at new cars from time to time and I'm just like, "Meh." (We do have an Accord that we commute to work in most days. The Cougar isn't my daily driver.) It's been with me through several girlfriends and now my wife and 5 different homes. I towed it many miles behind the B190, and it was with us when we got into the crash (fortunately, the Cougar was only slightly damaged). I've driven it through every weather condition imaginable.

We used it on our wedding day - after the church ceremony, we drove it to a spot for pictures and got some pictures of us with the car, and one of those pictures is now on a canvas print hanging in our hallway. Then we drove it to the reception, then the hotel. I should note that using it was my wife's idea, too. :) She's very supportive! From a practical point of view, it's far cheaper than a new car.

At this point I'm basically the car's mother. I know every sound and when I hear a new one, I get worried. I'll keep it until it's dead, which basically means when some idiot pulls out in front of me and I can't stop in time, or something like that. That said, I'm surprised that hasn't happened already. Defensive driving for the win, I guess.

We've already swapped one new engine into it. If it ever needs an engine again, I might do an all-electric conversion next time. :)

My brother and I have a history of keeping vehicles for a long time, me 20 + years on the '71 c10, another '70 c30 sitting in the shed for 9 years, w/a motorhome on the frame, thinking I will get it road worthy some day but the realization that "someday" is running out  . He has a Harley he has had for over 25 years and a 911 pushing 20 years. It is what it is, minor auto hoarders.

No race car's here, but still fun drivers -- 1990 Miata -- first year 50k miles and 2 1995 Ford Contour SE's(the 4 door version of Skater's Cougar, abit, a couple years earlier) both with about 120-125k miles. Drive all 3 in the nice weather months -- 06 Saab Sport Combi and 94 Ford Ranger for the winter months.

I've got a '91 Miata special British racing green edition with 55k on the odometer. Take it for a spin once a month just to keep it lubricated. Fun little car but getting harder to get in and out of!

When everything is in the garage their is the sig others 2016 VW Passat R line, my 2013 Honda F6b, 2010 Cadillac Cts Wagon and the '71 Chevy C10 Choptop. My stuff will be parked inside all winter and my winter beater is a Volvo station Wagon. The B will be in it's enclosure as soon as I put it together.
