How do I Turn on the Air? Help!

Post by Cherstream »

Hi All,

I have a 1992 B-190 with a Duo Therm air conditioner mounted on the roof and I must be missing something cause I can't get it on. I tested it with the former owner when I first bought it months ago and it worked. The switches on the air conditioner itself don't seem to do a thing. I vaguely remember him turning on something else first. There looks to be 2 different thermostats and I am not sure what either do. One says Hyroflame, the other one is near the light switch by the top bunk. I have to travel to somewhere very hot tomorrow. Any help is greatly appreciated!

yep...there is a separate switch that looks like an ordinary light switch that will switch between the power sources to your roof-top air unit, either 110 volts from being plugged in or 110 volts being provided by your Onan generator.

UP is for being plugged into 110 and down is for running your air from the generator..

Thank you, that worked!

Thank you so much. That worked. It's now running. You are a lifesaver. It is going to be over 100 degrees where I am going for the next few days.

Glad you got a quick answer. One note, on my 93, up is for AC, down is for Microwave. The van is not set up electrically to run both at the same time.

This was pretty common for that era Airstream - my parents' 1987 34' Airstream trailer has the exact same thing.

On the other hand, my 1995 30' does not, even with a 30 amp plug. I can run both at the same time. So it is possible. I suspect Airstream wired the microwave into the same circuit as the outlets. They probably switched to a lower-wattage microwave, too...

You are correct, it's AC or Microwave

I finally got in touch with with the previous owners last night. They said the same thing -- the switch is for the AC or the microwave -- you can't run both at the same time. Glad I have that figured out.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Does anyone know what the second thermostat near bunk light switch does? I have it in my van too but not sure about that one. I know the other one is for the furnace...

On my ‘99, the thermostat near the bunk light switch is for the fantastic fan above the upper bunk. You can set a temp that will automatically turn that fan on.
