Old range vent. Missing flap to seal opening. Plastic brittle with weather cracking. Caulking showing cracks.

This wasp nest may have generated some unwanted guest inside the RV before we bought it! Now I really want to replace the vent with one that has a shutter!

Found the replacement for the original factory vent. Here it is installed.

The replacement vent now gives us the shutter. And before I installed the vent, I also added window screen on the back side of the vent. That gives us two layers of protection... in case the wasp come back. <smile>

I found my replacement vent at Bluegrass RV in Lexington, Kentucky. It was hanging on a display in their parts showroom. You might be able to order it at www.bluegrassrv.com or call them at 800.759.9452. Airstream parts department may also be able to direct you to one.

I think they are pretty common. Our local RV dealer had them in stock, as well.

I replaced ours last night. I believe it was far more difficult due to a previous owner having possibly replaced it previously, or simply removed and re-installed the old one. I think the latter is more likely. I don't know what kind of adhesive the guy used, but it was a nightmare to get off. And just as bad to get the stuff off the van. Once I got that far, I had to trim off about 3/8". Mostly due to a inward lip that would not allow the vent to get out side the ducting. I taped off the van and put a liberal, but reasonable amount of 20/20 sealant. Overall a really simple job, but it was made far more time consuming by a previous owner.

The vent is made by Heng's #J116AOW-C, however you do need to trim about 1/2 to 1 inch of the lip that sticks into the van (as previously posted). I used corded weatherstrip to seal mine, a lot due to the curvature of the van, and put new stainless steel screws in. It fit perfectly after cutting it down with a hack saw. And all the holes aligned properly

Does this one fit the 97 year model?

Not sure. Mine's a 92. Check dimensions before you order.

The hole for the vent in my 97 is very small. The whole rig seems like an afterthought. The hinge for the flap was a piece of duct tape! I removed that one and the flap and ordered the Heng version. It's quite a bit bigger and I'll have to enlarge the hole but it won't be any real big deal. I'm pretty confident in cutting into and carving up the the top of my rig these days. That Dicor sealant is awesome stuff and ain't gonna leak if applied correctly.
