Bike Rack

We have a 1996 B-190 with the spare tire on the rear left (driver's side) door. We are considering getting a Thule bike rack that fits on the spare tire, but I'm seeing some pretty poor reviews about that type. We have thought about the ladder rack, but I'm concerned after hearing from other RV owners that the ladder is not made to hold that kind of weight (2 bikes). Also, we went to the local bicycle shop and the guy there didn't think the hitch mounted bike rack would clear the spare tire. Does anyone have any suggestions, or pros or cons for the 3 types that I mentioned above? Just want to make the best decision. Thanks!

I have been wondering the same thing about the bike rack! ... I have run into the same problems that you have. The only thing I can think of is to get one of the Cargo Extenders that you can put storage, or a motor scooter on. You wouldn't be able to store much under the tire...but plenty of room on the other side. That is what I am looking to do.

The best option for bikes is the 2 brackets the would mount it to the rear ladder...pre 1997
If its made for a person to climb up its certainly strong enough for a couple bikes....
OR...look into the Dahon bikes that fold & come in a nice carry-bag, which is what Iam now doing for a freind. I had made her a rear mount for her bike using the trailer hitch receiver but she keeps backing into things with that...
click on this link to see their bikes---->

In addition...you might consider a bike mount that uses the hitch receiver
and some of them fold down so you can easily open the back doors
Clamp-On bike brackets....they attach to the ladders aluminum tubing

Let me look to see the name on them....probably a RV supply like Camping World...
"CAMCO" Clamp-N-Carry
rated at 50 pounds each... looks like they are actually for chairs but I used they for quite some time for my bike. They came on one of my other rigs.
They are very easy to install have they each have a place for a small padlock
Type that name above into a Google Search.....there are lots of places that have them...
JC Whitney @ 29.95
RV Supply Warehouse @ 30.59
Camping World @ 27.99
I just happened to see a B190 parked down in the Marina this afternoon and look what was on the rear.....
Need to get this guy as a member.....his email address was on the drivers window.....

I'd say go for a hitch mount rack with a hitch extender like this:

Obviously, you'll have to check for clearance, but it seems like it would work.
