Ordered new converter!

I just ordered an Inteli-Power PD9260C for the camper. :)

When I checked the voltage a couple weeks ago, the old converter was only putting out 11 volts. Not good. Supposedly this new one will fit in the spot where the current converter's "guts" are, but if it doesn't I'm sure I can find room under the couch for it. :)

P.S. This is the 1000 message on the forums! Woohoo! :)

New converter came last night. I didn't realize that it came with the charge wizard (which lets you see the current charging state and override it). The converter is smaller than I expected, too.

Also, I ordered a new fuse panel to replace the one I have. Filtered power for all circuits!

I'll post some pictures of it later.

Eventually, or maybe immediately, I'd like to rewire that big hunk'o'wires near the driver's seat to be individual, fused circuits. What a concept! (The power seats, generator, and -- in mine -- radio and CB are powered through that unfused connection.)

I'm about halfway done with the new installation. :)

I have the wiring in for the plug (the old one was hard-wired, but this one has a standard 15-amp 120 volt plug on the end, and the kit included an outlet that I wired to the breaker), and the new fuse panel is in place and just needs the wires from the converter hooked to it.

To do yet: drill out the rivets holding the old converter in place, bolt the new converter on, hook up the wires and ground, and test it.

I stopped tonight because I didn't have a charged battery pack for the drill. Plus it was getting dark and thus harder to see.

A few. But honestly it's pretty straightforward, and just like the others I've seen on the web. The only quirk for us is that it's not very comfortable to work on it between the couch and the cabinets. :)

All done! It's in and working perfectly. I installed a new Optima Blue Top battery, too. I'll do a writeup and pictures later - I'm totally out of energy at this point! :)

Update on this - after the first trip, I have to say the converter worked very well. The electrical system was a lot more stable; for example, the florescent light was no longer flickering (which has been a problem since I bought the camper), and my radio wasn't shutting off any more when the pump ran.

One minor glitch - the first night, I woke up and was looking at the cabinets, and I saw an eerie green flashing light on the cabinets - the flashing light of the charge wizard. I didn't do anything about it, but I didn't notice it again the rest of the weekend. I'll have to see how it goes in other trips.

Hi Skater,

I was looking for the info you had posted in the past about this install. I used the info to replace the converter in my B190 a few years ago, but now I could use the info again to replace the converter in my brother's RV. The link appears to be bad.
I know its fairly straight forward, but your article was still very useful to me. Please repost the article or post a link.

Thanks,
Walt

Whoops! Sorry about that. Here it is - I'll update the link above, too.
