Power door lock key fob install question

Has anyone installed a key fob alarm system to lock/unlock the doors?

I was told I need a door lock module to operate the locks remotely?

Any input on this subject would be awesome.

Thank in advance, D

According to the Ford manual I read for my 1992, you need to give a Ford dealer your VIN, and then they can tell you if it has the module, or originally had remote door lock option. The module is behind the drivers "B" pillar where the sofa back is(behind the paneling), if it is there.

Instead of trying to get the Ford system, I'd just install an aftermarket system (Viper, and plenty of others) - probably much cheaper and easier in the long run, plus you can add an alarm, remote start, etc.

I agree Skater, but if the van already has the Ford system, all you need is the Fob, which still might cost more than an aftermarket system. But, there are a lot of nice built in features if you do have the Ford system.

Oh, yeah, if it already has the module, then buying the fob is probably pretty inexpensive - check eBay or RockAuto.com, for example. And you may not even have to go to the dealer to program it - I know on my Cougar I can do it using the ignition key. (On the other hand, we spent about $100 for a fob and programming for my wife's Saturn over the weekend.)

Don't forget to check eBay for anything you might need...new and used

2 days labor and my alarm and the key fob/alarm is in!! what a nice feature to have a door key fob!! My van did not have a factory door lock module.

10 bucks at Fry's Electronics got me one. So now my van has a full blown alarm and remote door entry.

It s a bit of a pain installing one "correctly" solder, shrink tube and so on.

Alarm installers do it in a few hours with cheap connectors and tape.

Thank you every one for your input.
