Just want to mention that I bought my foam mattress from the link below. It did not come with any sort of covering so we made our own. The total for the foam was $144.98.

If that works for you, awesome. No question there was a significant savings in your direction; we just needed more than a piece of foam for our situation. While we would have loved the savings, if we were to do it over again, we wouldn't change our decision.

I'm not a salesperson, nor do I have vested interest in anything I share.

The thing I appreciate most about this forum is that such a wide array of examples, opinions, and experiences can be shared, giving the readers opportunity for choice with respect to their own specific needs and requirements.

Oh yeah, the mattresses you got look much nicer. I have slept fine on the jack knife sofa but some people think its very uncomfortable so it all depends on the person.

Old thread, new post, just for some ideas. We pulled the old mattress out, and use two thermarest camping mats as the mattress. We got the 3" thick ones, like these: https://www.thermarest.com/sleeping-pad ... rymap.html and we zip together two Cabela's Mountain Trapper 20 degree bags for the bed. They're flannel lined and the whole deal is very cozy and comfortable. Two drawbacks: if you leave the curtains open, the canvas on the outside of the bags will of course get sun-faded. And, it's harder to clean (who likes to wash big rectangular sleeping bags??) than regular bedding. So if you use the bed a lot that might be a consideration. Solutions could include lining with sheets, wearing jammies...
