Curtains?

Post by chevl66 »

It seems quite a few people have put up new curtains - would anyone have the approximate yardage to do the entire van? (including upper bunk area)

Thanks!

I had a seamstress in South Florida use my old curtains as a template and make me a new complete set. She had me go to the fabric store and it was 13 yards of fabric I bought last year.

I had her recycle the old plastic sliders instead of buying new, but if you need sliders these should fit your tracks.

I recommend NOT using elastic banding to attach the curtains to the sliders. Elastic droops and rots in the heat. I recommend you use Bias Tape which not only looks better in the finished product, but will not deteriorate with heat or age like elastic will.

I had new curtains made out of a cream-colored canvas like material called "Duck Cloth". I really really like them. Don't forget to make the matching curtain tieback straps! Compare prices and look online, I had a 40% off coupon I used at Joanns.

Also, I had a matching set of the front-cabin curtains made. That's where a majority of the yardage really goes... but then I never even installed them. I have reflectex window covers for the windshield and side windows, the curtains just got in the way (even when stowed) and it actually opens the space up quite a bit to not have them in at all. But, I did make them at the same time so I have a complete matching set!

Thanks for all of the information and shop suggestions! I now have a water leak so that will be my focus before new interior.
